Museum Day Set for Saturday, Nov. 1

Come see the newly renovated Museum!
The themed exhibits reflect various aspects of our past: Shelby Iron Works, Business, Farm Life, Home, Faith, School, the Train Depot, and more! If you missed the opening day on Oct. 11'th , you can now see it, too!
If you have items of local historical interest that you would be interested in donating to the Association, or you have old photos that we can scan and duplicate for our Museum, please bring them.
With the newly remodeled Museum, we now have an exciting venue for people of all ages to experience and learn about Shelby’s rich heritage.
Visitors will be able to see the Gristmill in operation, as well as purchase T-shirts, syrup, and other Park products.
Bring a picnic lunch and enjoy the day in the park! Suggested donation for the Museum: $3 for adults, $1 for children. 9am - 5pm.

Fall 2007 Bulletin

Teen-age wisdom: Chuck Norris is the reason Waldo went into hiding. If you are still looking for Waldo after all this time, come to the Iron Works Festival on October 13th & 14th. We can't guarantee that you'll see either Waldo or Chuck Norris, but we are certain that you'll meet lots of nice-to-know down home folks there.
Of course we need lots of sweet friendly volunteers to help with festival activities. In a pinch we'll take your help even if you're in grouch mode. but please remember that as Abe Lincoln observed: "Most people are about as happy as they make up their minds to be". So, just put on your glad rags and come help. Call John Brasher, 669-2465, Tommy Trimble, 670-0142, or Virginia Mitchell, 669-6481, to say that you'll lend a hand.
Thanks to Ron Howard for his donation of the July 1968 and the July 1973 issues of "The Alabama Review". These issues contain historical information on "The Selma Works" by Richard J. Stockham and "Horace Ware: Alabama Iron Pioneer" by Robert McKinzie. Both of these essays have numerous references to the Shelby Iron Works.
We have invited both a group of Civil War re-enactors and a group of Early American Era portrayers to be part of our Festival. Current indications are that both groups are planning a traditional style overnight encampment at the park.
Due to the drought and extreme summer heat, we are having a problem getting cane for the syrup mill. Anyone who knows a cane grower with extra cane please contact John Brasher, Tommy Trimble or John Perkins.

We've had a very hot, very dry summer, but September finally arrived bringing much needed rain and much appreciated cooler weather. Crisp, cool mornings seem like a real blessing. We marvel at the beauty of the leaves changing colors until we realize that those leaves which were such delightful shades of red, yellow and gold just days ago are now piles of dead brown than need raking up.

October comes with pumpkins, apples, Columbus Day, Halloween, and best of all, The Shelby Iron Works Festival. The festival this year will be October 14th and 15th. Volunteers will be needed to clean and prepare the park, to bake goodies and to help with the festival activities. Please contact us at shelbyironworks@bellsouth.net if you can help.

A special meeting for last minute festival preparation will be held at the Park, Tuesday, Oct. 10 at 7 P.M.
Come on down and get involved in this year's event.

The Shelby Elementary School PTO volunteered to handle the kitchen operation and we are gratefully taking them up on their offer.

Also, volunteers will be needed to help put up the Christmas lights prior to the cook-out
